How to Determine Between 5 on 4-1/2 and 5 on 5 Bolt Patterns for Hub Covers
Question:
Hello.....I am looking at both of the Phoenix hub covers and trying to understand what is meant by part of the dimensions given. I understand 5 lug nuts....good there. What I dont know and dont know how to find out is the second part of this. My tires as 175/80R13 and I have the white wheels with the round holes that I see in one of the images for #PXQT545CHN. Can you please tell me how to determine which of these measurements apply to me so that I can order 4 of these please. Thanks

Wheel bolt patterns are defined by two numbers: the first being the number of lug nuts and the second being the diameter of the circle the lug nuts are arranged in. So a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern is 5 lugs arranged in a circle that is 4-1/2 inches in diameter. Subsequently, a 5 on 5 bolt pattern is 5 lugs arranged in a circle that is 5 inches in diameter.
To determine which you have you need to measure the distance between the holes on your wheel. With 5 lugs there's two ways you can do it. One is to measure from the center of one hole to the outside edge of one of the holes not directly next to it. That distance equals the second number in your bolt pattern. So it'll be 4-1/2 inches if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. The first diagram I attached shows this. This is the method I prefer because the measurement equals the diameter of the circle.
The other method is to measure from the center of one hole to the center of a hole next to it. In order to use this method you need to know what bolt pattern corresponds with. If you measure:
2-5/8 inches you have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern (very common)
2-3/4 inches you have a 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern
3 inches you have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern
3-1/4 inches you have a 5 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern
It's shown in the second diagram.
With a 13 inch wheel with 5 lugs it's likely you have a 5 on 4-1/2. It's the most common.
I've linked a help article that goes into finding a bolt pattern in more detail further for you.
For the Phoenix USA QuickTrim hub covers we have part # PXQT550CH4 for a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2 then we have parts # QT545C and # PXQT545CHN.
